Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office

Course Title:

Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office

Course Description:
The incidence of medical emergencies in the dental office is on the rise. Patients are living longer with new advances in medicine and surgery. As a result, they are taking more medications that may have potential dangerous interactions. New technical advances in dentistry mean that dental appointments are more complex in nature and longer in duration, creating more stress and anxiety for patients. In the lifetime of a typical dental practice, one or two treatment related deaths will occur. Thus, it is important for you and your staff to be able to recognize a life-threatening emergency and be prepared to manage the situation quickly and effectively.

Learning objectives for this lecture:

  • Be able to identify the most common emergencies that you may encounter in your office
  • Review the treatment of medical emergencies, including recent changes in PALS & ACLS drugs and algorithms.
  • Develop confidence in your skills to treat any emergency quickly and effectively
